I/O Award 2007
 

 

Prof. D. M. Gavrila from the University of Amsterdam received the I/O Award 2007 from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO). The I/O Award recognizes the best outreach of ICT research towards the general public. The criteria are clarity of contribution, public outreach, and the quality of the underlying research.
 

Prof. Gavrila received the I/O Award 2007 for the publicity surrounding his Oratio (Public Lecture) "Machine sees Man" earlier this year, with media appearances in De Volkskrant, NRC and others.

The award was presented at the SIREN 2007 conference (Scientific ICT Research Event Netherlands) in Delft and comes with a €5000 prize. There were a total of seven nominations.

 

 

Best Paper Award AVSS 2007
 

 

The paper CASSANDRA: Audio-Video Sensor Fusion for Aggression Detection by W. Zajdel, D. Krijnders, T. Andringa and D.M. Gavrila, received Best Paper Award at the IEEE Int. Conf. on Advanced Video and Signal based Surveillance (AVSS) in London, 2007. The award comes with a $500 prize.
